Actually, the mural sections are in the studio…getting ready to be moved onto the new site of the Carlsbad Firestation 3. The completion date is the end of 2015. The frames will be mounted directly into Firestation walls during construction. Then the art will be permanently thin set into the frames closer to the end of the year. Here are a few photos of the sculptural tile murals and the “hanging” frames that have just been sealed. Yes, the boots and jacket are sculpted, glazed and fired clay. There are a few fire-related historical artifacts that will be bolted into the metal frames with tiles mounted up to them. All in all, this is a very cool project for a great fire company.
